Royal Polaris 7-day Accurate Trip (September 15-22, 2013)

Congratulations Robert, Trip JP 85# YFT

The annual Accurate 7-day trip on the Royal Polaris got away early on September 15, 2013.  Frank LoPreste skippered this trip, with Jonathon, Ben, Terence, Eddie, Darren taking care of us on the deck, with Anthony and James taking care of our nutritional needs.

Accurate provided Boss reels with the latest Calstar graphiter rods for the passengers to use for the entire trip.  Izorline provided 40# and 50# fluorocarbon along with XXX mono to top off the reels.

We started out fishing kelp paddies for yellowtail the first day and then moved over to the Asuncion/Hipolito area for yellowfin tuna on day 2.  We fished Cedros 2 day for nice size yellowtails.  Frank was telling us whenever a school of yellows swam under the boat.  I dropped a blue and white salas 6x jig to the bottom, waited until Frank saw the fish on the machine and then started cranking (saves the arm from unnecessary cranking).  Don’t tell your friends about this, because it works too good.  We fished the last two days off shore for yellowfin tuna.  We had one drift for 6 hrs that put over 300 tuna in the RSW.  Now that was a great stop.

The jackpot was won by Robert Frank with a 85# yellowfin tuna.  Robert also received the coveted acrylic Accurate trophy for the largest fish caught with a Accurate reel and the daily prize of a 2 speed Boss reel.  Other daily prize winners were Peter Martil (Calstar 875XH factory wrapped rod), Kelly Palmer (Calstar sweatshirt), Gene Sato (Calstar blank), Mike Reed (Swifty spectra washing system),  and Jay Swindler (Maui Jim Sunglass voucher).

I want to thank the following sponsors for supporting this trip with products that were very much appreciated by the passengers.  Accurate Fishing Products, Calstar Rods, Izorline fluorcarbon and mono, Salas lures, Swifty Mfg line washing system, Maui Jim Sunglasses and Baja Fish Gear gift cards. Thank you to Frank and his crew for making this trip a success.  One last thanks to Monica in the RP office for getting us all on board early.   I tried to capture the passengers having fun.  I hope you enjoy the following photos as much as the passengers enjoyed creating them.

Accurate Sponsored American Angler 5-day (Jul 27 - Aug 1, 2013)

We cleared the point just after noon and headed south with a fantastic load of large cured sardines (thank you Everingham brothers).  Skipper Brian Kiyohara started us off around 120 miles looking for kelp patties.  We hooked a lot of yellowtail but only a few of the bigger ones.  The next day we moved back up to the 80 mile area and caught our daily limit of bluefin tuna (from 8 to 70 pounds).  The next day we did it again for about 60 more bluefin.  For our last day of fishing, Brian took us south again (to 160 miles) for bigger yellowtails.  After a lot of kelp patty action we turned north and called it a trip.

What a trip it was.  We all made new fishermen friends, had great meals (way too much food for most of us) and had a chance to use the latest fishing gear from Accurate, Calstar and Izroline.  Accurate provided loaner Boss reels and their matching Accurate rods.  Calstar provided several new and popular bait fishing rods and Izorline provided spectra and fluorocarbon.  In addition, Salas provided surface and yoyo jigs, Swifty Mfg provided line de-spoolers & spectra washing inserts and Maui Jim supported the trip with a VIP voucher for a pair of sunglasses.   Thank you to Baja Fish Gear for providing rod ties and gift cards for the passengers.

On this trip, the ideal set up was a 500 size Boss reel, Calstar 875H rod, 65# Izorline spectra with a short piece of 60# hollow spectra transition piece and a 25 ft section of 40# Izorline spectra tied to a Mustad #39942 4/0 Demon circle hook.

Congratulatons to our jackpot winners.  1st place, John Berekoff 70# bluefin;  2nd place, Tony Contreras with a substantially larger 67.5# bluefin than 3rd place Roger Kuramoto’s 67# bluefin (it was substantial to Tony since it was bigger than Rogers and that is all that mattered to Tony).   John Berekoff also won the Accurate trophy for the largest fish caught on a Accurate reel.  The daily prize winners were:  Arthur Ramirez won a Calstar rod, John Berekoff won a Boss 500  reel, Tony Contreras won a Accurate sweatshirt, John Liu won a complete Swifty de-spooling and washing system and Dr. Mike Uyeki won a sunglass voucher from Maui Jim.

Accurate will be sponsoring this trip again next year (Mon. July 28 - Sat. Aug 2, 2014).  It you are interested in joining us next year, give Lori a call at the American Angler office.  Check out the following photos of the passengers having fun.
