Izorline 6-Day Red Rooster 3 Trip (Sep 10-16, 2012)

This is the trip report for the annual 6-day Izorline sponsored trip (Sept 10-16, 2012) on the Red Rooster 3.  We all had a great time. The Izorline reps were Roy Yoshida and myself.  Andy Cates skippered the trip and the crew was comprised of Derek, Tom, Nick, Fernando, Stan and Chapman.

With the primary support from Izorline and addition support provided by Accurate, Calstar, Salas Lures, Mustad hooks, and Baja Fish Gear, we were very well prepared.  When the opportunity to catch big tuna is met with the level of preparation afforded us by the sponsors, the results are 360 yellowfin tuna, 299 yellowtail, 79 bluefin and 71 dorado.

We fished off-shore the first two days catching school size YFT and BFT from 80# to 107#.  Andy did some of that magical “skipper stuff” to find the bigger bluefin tuna.  We landed 27 of them on the first day.  We thought that we were blessed after the first day, but little did we know that Andy would look in the right place on the 2nd day and we caught 52 more large BFT.  With 79 of these larger unit BFTs in the RSW, we headed south for yellowtail.  Two day later we had all of the 20-30# yellowtails that we wanted.  We spent the last day fishing off shore looking for kelps with dorado.  The weather was flat and calm the entire trip.  I don’t think that we could have asked for better conditions or better fishing than we experienced. Stan and Chapman kept us all well fed and Derek, Tom, Nick, Fernando and Andy were always there to untangle our mistakes, provide valuable advice and gaff our catch.

The jackpot winners were Anthony Logrande with a 107# BFT, Mark Wallace 91.4# BFT and Frank Brown Jr. 90.8# BFT.  Anthony also got to take home the Izorline Lunker award for the biggest fish caught using Izorline line.

Thank you to the tackle manufactures as they made it possible for the passengers to fish a couple of fully configured outfits with all the latest equipment (Accurate DAWG Boss reels, Calstar 875H and XH rods, Izorline spectra and fluorocarbon with the nail knot connections and the Mustad 39942 (3X Demon circle hook)Salas lures provided both 7X and 6X JR in a new color (Mexican Squid).  Baja Fish Gear provide gift cards and rod ties.  I also want to thank Mario of Sportsman Seafood for providing the trip with smoked and jerky fish for the afternoon snacks as well as for discounts on fish processing.  Mario has been providing long range veterans reliable fish processing for decades.
